Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information (“RenkoBars”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use the RenkoBars website and service, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your email address, the name you choose, and your password. We store only a salted, one-way hash of your password, never the password itself.
- What you create: watchlists, alert settings, chart drawings, paper-trading orders and positions, Strategy Lab strategies, and your AI Coach conversations.
- Messages: what you send us through the contact form or by email, and our replies.
- Payments (when paid plans are billed online): handled by our payment processor. We receive a customer reference, your plan and its status, not your full card number.
- AI credits: each credit pack you buy, the credits each AI answer or Strategy Lab description used, and your balance (a ledger we keep as a billing record).
Information created as you use the Service
- Account records: your plan and its dates, when your email was confirmed, the version of the terms you accepted and when, the version of the note about AI explanations you accepted and when, your last sign-in, and failed sign-in counts (to protect against password guessing).
- Usage records: for each AI request its size, its cost and the credits charged (to bill credits and manage cost).
- Email records: for each email we send (for example a confirmation or password-reset link, or your alerts): the address, the kind of email, its subject line, the time and whether it was delivered. We never keep the link itself. These records are kept for 90 days. If our email provider tells us an address bounced or a message was marked as spam, we keep the address on a do-not-mail list so we stop writing to it.
- Signed-in devices: for each sign-in, the browser and system your device reports (for example "Chrome on Windows"), when it signed in and when it was last used, so you can see and sign out your devices in Settings and so an account is not used on more devices at once than allowed. Removed 30 days after the device is signed out or stops being used.
- Preferences: your page settings (the list you picked, table layouts, chart, filter and view choices), saved with your account so they follow you to every device.
- Technical data: our servers record each request (time, page or API called, result, and your account number if signed in) to keep the Service running and secure. Your IP address is used briefly to limit repeated attempts (for example sign-in attempts) and may appear in our hosting provider's network logs.
Information from connected services
- Telegram (optional): if you connect Telegram for alerts, we store your Telegram chat number and the display name Telegram gives us, so we can send you messages. You can disconnect at any time in Settings.
2. Cookies and browser storage
We use one essential cookie that keeps you signed in. It lasts for your browser session, or for 14 days (renewed while you use the site) if you choose “Keep me signed in”. Your browser's local storage keeps a copy of your page settings (saved with your account, see above) and a few choices for that device only, such as light or dark theme. We do not use advertising, analytics or social-media tracking cookies, and we do not respond differently to browser “Do Not Track” signals because we do not track you across sites.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the Service: your account, watchlists, alerts, paper trading, the Strategy Lab and AI Coach.
- To send account emails (confirming your address, password resets, notices about changes to your account or these policies) and the alerts you turn on.
- To apply plan features and limits, and, when billing is online, to process payments.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and fix problems.
- To answer your messages and requests.
- To understand, in aggregate, how features are used, so we can improve them.
- To comply with the law and enforce our terms.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or use it to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you. We send marketing emails only if you opt in, and each one will let you unsubscribe.
4. AI features
When you ask the AI Coach, we send your question, earlier messages in that conversation, and the market data and results needed to answer it to our AI provider, Anthropic, which generates the answer. We do not send your email address or name with it. We keep your conversations so you can return to them; you can delete a conversation in the AI Coach at any time. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your questions.
Our AI usage log also keeps the text of each question for up to 90 days, to investigate problems and complaints; deleting a conversation removes its questions from that log too. Before an answer is shown, automatic checks look for wording that could read as investment advice or a forecast. If an answer is held back, we keep that question and answer for up to 400 days so we can review and improve the checks.
When you describe a strategy in the Strategy Lab, we send your description to Anthropic so it can be turned into test rules; we do not send your email address or name with it. We keep the description, the AI's answer and the rules you confirmed with your strategy and its test results, for 90 days (then only a minimal record of each test and the credits charged is kept). A strategy you share is shown to other members without your name.
Confirm the AI provider's current data-use and retention terms for API traffic (including whether inputs are used for model training) and describe them here.
5. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run RenkoBars, under contracts that limit their use of it to providing their service to us:
- Hosting and database (Railway), which store and run the Service.
- Cloudflare, which delivers account emails and email alerts, protects the site's network traffic, and stores our encrypted backups.
- AI provider (Anthropic), for AI Coach answers and Strategy Lab descriptions, as described above.
- Telegram, only if you connect it, to deliver your alerts.
- Payment processor (Stripe), which handles card payments for plans and AI credits.
Market data providers receive only the ticker symbols we request, not information about you. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or RenkoBars, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business, in which case we will tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. How long we keep information
- Account information and what you create: while your account is open. When you delete your account (Settings > Your data), we delete it at once, together with its watchlist, alerts, drawings, paper trades, strategies, AI conversations, preferences and email records, and send a short confirmation to your address.
- Records we must keep for legal, tax, accounting or security reasons (for example billing records), for as long as the law requires.
- Email delivery records: 90 days. The text of AI questions in our usage log: 90 days (held-back answers: 400 days). Strategy Lab strategies and their tests: 90 days, as described above. Server logs: kept for a limited period for operations and security.
- The AI credit ledger and payment records are billing records, kept as the law requires (questions are not stored in them).
- Backups are overwritten on a regular cycle, so deleted data may remain in backups for a short time.
7. Your choices and rights
- You can view and update your name, email address, password, alert settings and Telegram connection in Settings. Alert emails are off unless you turn them on, and every one has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- In Settings > Your data you can download a copy of your information (one JSON file) and delete your account and its data yourself, at any time.
- You can also ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account and its data, by writing to or using the contact form (topic “Privacy request”). We will verify the request comes from the account holder and answer within the time the law requires (for example 45 days under California law).
- Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as the right to know what we collect and why, to delete, to correct, to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither), and to appeal our decision on a request. We will not treat you differently for using them. California residents may also use an authorised agent.
- If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object and to data portability, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. Our legal bases are performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a secure service, your consent where we ask for it, and legal obligations.
Confirm which state privacy laws apply at launch (thresholds), whether an EU/UK representative is needed, and the process for verifying requests.
8. Security
We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, one-time links stored only as hashes, signing everyone out when a password is reset, and access limited to staff who need it. No service is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
9. Children
RenkoBars is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Where information is processed
RenkoBars is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information is transferred to the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
11. Changes to this policy
We will post any update here with a new date and version. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or on the Service before it takes effect.
